DEPUTY GROUP CEO - TECHNOLOGY AND DIGITAL, AIRASIA GROUP
Aireen Omar is Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer (Digital, Transformation and Corporate Services), responsible for AirAsia’s digital strategy, promoting innovation throughout the group and encouraging collaboration across AirAsia’s businesses and markets. Additionally, she oversees large, strategic group-wide initiatives to help transform AirAsia into a global, cloud-driven product and platform company. Aireen is also the CEO of RedBeat Ventures, ensuring collaboration across AirAsia’s businesses and markets with RedBeat Ventures’ portfolio companies.
Aireen joined AirAsia in January 2006 as Director of Corporate Finance and her portfolio expanded quickly to include Treasury, Fuel Procurement and Investor Relations functions. Taking on these roles, she was instrumental in shaping the development of AirAsia into one of the fastest growing and most highly-acclaimed airlines globally. She made her mark when, at the peak of the global credit crisis in 2008, she managed to secure funding for AirAsia’s expansion plans. Then in 2012, Aireen was appointed CEO of AirAsia Berhad. She was promoted to her current role of Deputy Group CEO (Digital, Transformation and Corporate Services) of AirAsia Group in December 2017.
Aireen launched her career at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc in 1997, holding positions in New York and London before leaving in 2000 from the Equity Arbitrage Proprietary Trading Desk focusing on international equities, equity derivatives and equity-linked products. After returning to Malaysia in 2001, she served in several major local financial institutions including the Maybank Group, the country’s largest banking and financial services group. She is an Economics graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science and also holds a Master in Economics from New York University.
Aireen has received an Outstanding Achievement Award (CEO Category) at the inaugural Malaysian Women of Excellence in 2014. She was awarded Corporate Treasurer’s 25 Most Influential Women in Treasury 2015 and Masterclass Woman CEO of the Year award for two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015 at the Selangor Excellence Business Awards. In November 2016, Aireen was awarded the Eminent Leaders in Asia accolade at the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability Awards (ACES). Aireen was also named APAC CEO of the year 2017 by Aviation 100 Awards.
Aireen has become a role model for many girls in the region. This is something she embraces, investing her time into programmes such as #GirlsCanDoAnything. She believes in empowering girls with the confidence to pursue their dreams. In similar vein, she’s now set to empower start-ups to achieve their potential.

Prior to joining AirAsia in 2015, How was at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Consulting based in Malaysia, where he led numerous organisational and financial transformation projects in industries including logistics and aviation. He also led in the integration of mergers and enterprise performance management engagements to assist companies gain better insight into their business. With over 19 years of experience in finance function improvement, How has the right mix of knowledge and experience that will ensure RedBeat Ventures’ success.

How’s meticulous eye for numerical detail comes as no surprise given he is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor. He is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Joanna heads RedBeat Ventures' outfit in America, where she is responsible for maintaining a pulse on key technology trends and identifying innovative start-up companies to invest in, as well as building relationships with customers and industry players that can contribute to the growth and development of AirAsia and RedBeat Ventures’ portfolio of companies.
She previously served as the Chief Commercial and Financial Officer of AirAsia Indonesia, where she spearheaded the turnaround effort in Indonesia - from improving route and revenue performance to controlling costs - which ultimately led to the listing of the company in 2017.
Before making her way to Indonesia, Joanna was AirAsia’s Group Head of Strategy. Together with her earlier role in management consulting prior to joining AirAsia, Joanna has over 13 years of experience in corporate strategy and corporate finance. She has been involved in various assignments across the aviation, telecommunications and energy industries as well as private equity. Her expertise includes strategy development and implementation, mergers and acquisitions, business planning and business turnarounds.
Joanna holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Imperial College London and a Masters of Science in Operational Research from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
INVESTMENT MANAGER (ASEAN), INVESTOR RELATIONS & COMMUNICATION
Azita looks out for investment opportunities in the tech and digital space in Asean while keeping abreast of the competitive landscape of RedBeat Ventures’ portfolio of companies. Her main deliverables include enhancing value of portfolio companies and ensuring clear communication to all stakeholders.
Azita’s passion for corporate advisory, and detail-oriented and inquisitive nature landed her the role in RedBeat Ventures in January 2019. Prior to this, Azita was the lead regional transport, infrastructure and logistics analyst at Macquarie Capital Securities in Singapore. She produced thematic reports on Asian aviation, China outbound tourism in a well-followed Follow the Seats series, global infrastructure, and Asean e-logistics. She is known by her clients for her ambitious target prices, eye for details, operational and financial acumen, and witty report titles. Together with her first three years of her career as an investment banker, she has over 10 years of experience in sell-side corporate advisory, corporate finance, debt fund-raising and equity research.
Home-grown, Azita graduated with a first class honours Bachelor of Financial Engineering from Multimedia University, Malaysia. Determined by glass ceilings early in her career for her local qualification and gender, she truly believes in equality and opportunity should be given to those that dare to engineer their own luck.
